Promoting Sensitive Mother-Infant Interactions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Development and Design of a Nursing Intervention Using a Theory and Evidence-Based Approach

Introduction: Sensitive mother-infant interactions are important predictors of long-term relationship, which is one factor having a positive impact on infant development. Considering preterm infants’ immaturity, and maternal sensitivity may not develop optimally. A systematic review showed that current evidence the effectiveness parent-infant interventions promoting parental in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) low to very quality.
 
 Objective: The objective this paper report development process novel nursing intervention, using theory evidence-based approach, enhance neurodevelopment NICU.
 Methods: Medical Research Council’s guidance evaluate complex health interventions, an theory-based was used for study. Thus, based MRC framework, three main steps were conducted: 1- Identifying existing empirical evidence; 2- developing theory; 3- Modeling processes outcomes.
 Results: We developed guided participation intervention mothers participate their infant’s positioning (‘GP_Posit’). ‘GP_Posit’ upon Attachment theory, Guided Participation as well Synactive development.
 Conclusion: This being tested pilot randomized controlled trial (NCT03677752).
